The tenure of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) nominated member J. Ramakrishna, a state BJP member, was extended for the fifth time on Friday. This follows the defence ministry extending the tenure of civilian-nominated members of 56 cantonments across the country. Ministry of Defence joint Secretary Rakesh Mittal issued official orders regarding the extension of tenure by six months. Their term will now end on February 10, 2024.

Ramakrishna was an SCB member for seven years before serving as board vice-president for four years, the longest tenure ever. A member of Ward no 5, he said that he will also strive hard to ensure the BJP wins the constituency polls. Speaking about his plans for the next six months, Ramakrishna said he is working towards bringing reforms, including new bylaws. “We are also planning to secure funds from the state government that are due. We are projecting to take up infrastructural development projects worth ₹200 crores to improve nalas and another ₹200 crore worth of works to fix the sewerage system,” he told Deccan Chronicle. He said he would also compel the state government to release ample quantities of water so that residents could receive supply every alternate day.
